Dashboard Video

I put the T2i on the dash today when I drove through the damaged road section. As you can see from the video, every car that goes through is in the way of the road crews - thought if I shared the video, some could see that, rather than just drive up to look

Baldy Bobcat To the Rescue

Water everywhere - and of most concern, the creek that runs under the lodge was backing up behind ice dams, building up under the lodge, and running down the road by the tri-plex. All is well now, at 10:00pm. We lost the road in 1972, but not tonight. If you come up to Baldy - keep your kids away from the lodge. The water is running heavily, and there are now some cool piles of snow and trenches where Randal dug down to get the water flowing.

Opening a channel in front of the lodge - in a snowstorm.

Road erosion

Creek backed up behind lodge.

Moving snow away to get the excavator in close.

Water course until blockages cleared.

One of the outlets starting to flow in front of the lodge.

Randal wouldn't let Matt play with the excavator

Lake exposed behind the first aid room - just as it started to flow.

Road Woes

Thanks CG for the e-mail - McKinney Road is washed out near Gallaghers - on the reserve where Wolfe Creek meets the road. Argo has been notified - they were already working on some major messes on the highway - will post when I have confirmation that the road is fixed.

9:00pm update
Thanks Cathy Gale for the photos

Friends of yours?

Do you know the owners of these trucks? Perhaps you could have a friendly chat with them about showing a little respect for the residents of Mt. Baldy. When the ski area snowmobiles are out on the slopes - I rarely hear them. When the sleds from these trucks are on the slopes, the noise inside my home is intolerable. One of the sleds sounds like a cow in distress. I politely spoke to one of the men as he was refuelling the sled. He did not impress me when he asked how long I had lived here, declared the ski hill open for snowmobilers every year after the hill closes, and didn't have an answer when I said that signage does not indicate that. Repetitive runs up and down the Face on McKinney with throttle thrusting is very loud in the village.

Am I angry? I am tired of the loud noise invading my home.

Single Lane - Coal Creek Canyon

Sometime today, some mud and debris slid from the bank in Coal Creek Canyon. There will be cones placed there shortly, and presumably Emcon will have a look in the morning.

The run off is heavy right now - drive with caution - you never know what new surprise may await you around the next corner.

Argo's section of the McKinney Road is getting dust control applied tonight.

I've been watching this rock for a few years - will this be the year?

Zone Finals - K Racers 2013

The Baldy Racers will be hosting the Zone Finals for K Racers in 2013. This makes me very happy - not only a great event for this club to host, but also one more weekend that our Baldy Racers will be home!

Stunning Shots from Above the Ski Area

Thanks John Williamson for these great shots from last month above the ski area. Reminds us of how peaceful and beautiful the terrain is above Eaglechair.

John's tree - good photo of this one last year as well.

Last Run

Cardboard Box 2012,

The weather Saturday was not conducive to having my T2i out, so the video is GoPro with no zoom. I'll get the slush footage (T2i) edited in the coming days.

Spectacular Sunday

Absolutely amazing closing day. Powder everywhere, sunshine, and a big splash in the pond skim slush event. It's all over but the cryin'...............well a few tears were shed in the lounge this afternoon as staff and guests gathered to reflect on the season.

I have too many still and video images from today - I'll get them posted later in the week, so check back soon.

A great season by all accounts, and some are already counting the days to next season.

The next generation was soaking up the atmosphere this afternoon - I counted at least 4 babies and four young children - Andrew, Jenny, Rutka, Owen, Geoff and Lindsay already have their children on the slopes, and the babies won't be too far behind.
